In Loving Memory
Charles Wallace "Chuck" McKinnon
4/5/1952 - 2/17/2010

LITTLETON – The North Country lost a wonderful craftsman suddenly while he was working on Wednesday, February 17th.

Chuck showed his love in his work, as a father, husband, brother, and friend to many.  His joy and interest included reading, music, gardening, mowing, walking with Jack and Daisy, and sitting on the front porch after a long days work.

Those left behind to cherish the memory and love of Chuck include his wife Penny, daughter Kattie, sisters Lorna and Karleen, nephews and nieces.  Chuck now joins his daughter Elizabeth, who also left us suddenly three years ago.

There will be no calling hours or services at this time.  A celebration of his life will be planned for late spring or early summer.  An announcement will be made at that time.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Chuck’s memory to the Elizabeth Anita McKinnon Scholarship, Littleton High School, 159 Oak Hill Ave., Littleton, NH 03561.

Our prayers go out to Chuck's family. Chuck came into our lives in 1995 when we hired him to restore/repair the victorian home we had just purchased. His creative spirit lives on in every room in our home. We can't walk into any room without thinking about Chuck. Over the years, we called on Chuck many times to work with us on our project. We joked that because he spent so much time at our home, we should claim him as a deduction. He never failed to surprise us with his excellent workmanship. He was a thoughtful man in the way he worked, spoke and acted. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to tell. He was always talking about his daughters--so much we felt as though we knew them. Once Elizabeth wanted a computer so Chuck made a "bet" with her which he thought he would win. He ended up buying a computer! He often spoke about being outnumbered by the women in his home. One Christmas he wanted to get Penny a slow cooker and asked me to research them for him. Just a few weeks ago we called on him to adjust our countertop to fit a new stove. Even though he was working on his home, he dropped everything to help us. We were so lucky to have him in our lives for so many reasons, and we will surely miss his mischievous smile and most importantly his friendship.

Dear Lorna and Penny, What a shock to hear of Chuck's passing and what a loss to many. I'm sitting in my kitchen - the one that Chuck built - remembering his easy smile, dry sense of humor as well as his craftmanship as he applied his trade. Please know that Brian and I are thinking of you with an ache in our hearts for your loss and a hope that you find comfort in knowing that we care. Love, Brenda and Brian

It all seems so unfair to lose that wry smile and dry wit with the look of fiesty friendship slapping you on the back. Chuck and I would catch up like it was yesterday. We always seemed to have gone through the same school another year or two between. Melissa and I hope for the strength of Chuck's love to be with you and guide you. His tall footprints will always walk by your sides.

To Penny and Kattie - two of Chuck's redheads, We are lucky to live in the house Chuck designed and built for us. When Dave retired from the Army in 1989, we decided to build a home on our land. We consulted with Winnie Harris and he said "Chuck McKinnon" and introduced us to Chuck. Chuck designed our house from a plan we liked - making many changes to suit us. He raised the first floor ceiling to accomodate our chandelier, he moved a wall so that the night watchman(hall light) had a shelf to sit on and redesigned the bathrooms to accomodate both shower stall and bathtub in each. Then Lizzie was born and she completed his trio of redheads. How very happy he was! Construction began in June and together with Bob DiBlasi, Chuck built us the wonderful home that we live in today. In the twenty years we have lived here, hardly a day goes by that Chuck's name is not mentioned. He, Bob and the many excellent craftsmen he selected that worked on the house have been our friends ever since. So Penny, Kattie, Lorna and all the family, we are so very grateful that we share so many of Chuck's gifts. Much love and many hugs, Dave and Tanya Tellman

Dear Penney, Lorna and family, Kathy and I just came back from Fla. I was floored when I read the news about Chuck in the paper. I was very fortunate to have been classmates with Chuck, and to have worked on many projects with him over the last 25 years. It was a priviledge to work with him. Anyone who has ever met Chuck has lost a truly great friend. He always had a smile and a sense of humor that will live on in my memory. I will miss the opportunities to work with him and to just chat with him; he could brighten the cloudiest of days. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. We are so sorry for your loss, all of us share in your loss. Chuck was a good man! sincerely, Larry and Kathy

I have known my brother from his first day on earth. My dad put me on his shoulders so I could see my new baby brother on April 5. My brother is intelligent, peaceful and kind. In our childhood, it was my job to protect and care for him. When we were older, Chuck assumed the role of protector for us. I will always love my brother with my entire heart and he is in Gods' hands....what better hands to be in. My love to you, Chuck. Karleen

Lorna, Karleen and Family, So very sad to hear that you have lost Chuck. The memories go way back to our childhood friendships and all the time we spent together. Chuck was a special friend to our family as you also have been. He was truly "an original," as Emilie said. So many people's lives have been enriched by knowing him, and he will be held in many hearts forever. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

One day in 1970 Chuck invited me and Chip Handy to his house to hear a new album he had just bought. "You have got to hear this," he said, barely able to contain his enthusiasm. He wouldn't show us the album until he dramatically dropped the needle on the record. He cranked up his stereo and the opening choir of You Can't Always Get What You Want on the Rolling Stones Let it Bleed came blasting out. Chuck was a few years ahead of me in high school. He was always feeding me books to read--Kafka, Camus, Faulkner. Chuck thought reading really difficult literature was a cool thing to do. I thank him for that. What a great guy. Condolences to his family.

Lorna - Tanya called me and told me about Chuck ... I couldnt believe it. I have had a few things going on myself and took me a while to write this to you. I remember the many times that we were at your house and Chuck would "bother us". He was always so funny. It was almost like actually having a brother. I know this is a difficult time as I just went through the same thing with Linda. There are just no words to describe how you feel or what is running through your head, you can laugh one minute and be crying the next. Im so glad you and your family waere a part of my childhood. They are great memories.
